Immigrant Visas (IV)
On February 1, 2007, the United States Embassy in Phnom Penh began processing immigrant, diversity and fiancée visas for Cambodian citizens, resuming a function formerly being performed by the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand.
All new immigrant, diversity and fiancée visa interviews will continue to be handled by appointment only. As before, applicants will be individually notified of their processing schedule. Public inquiries regarding Cambodian immigrant, diversity or fiancée visas inquiries should be directed to visasphp@state.gov.
Note: K-1 and K-3 applicants should NOT use the online appointment system. K-1 and K3 applicants will be contacted and scheduled for an appointment by the consular section.
Please note that the return of immigrant visa processing to the United States Embassy in Phnom Penh does not affect the U.S. Government moratorium on processing orphan immigrant visas (IR3 and IR4). The Phnom Penh Embassy Consular Section cannot process orphan immigrant visa applications until the moratorium is lifted.
Note on Cambodia Adoption Cases:
On December 21, 2001, the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), now known as the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS), announced an immediate suspension of the processing of adoption petitions for children from Cambodia. Consistent with this announcement, the U.S. Embassies in Cambodia and Bangkok will not process Cambodian adoption cases at this time.
They will transfer an approved I-600A (Application for Advanced Processing of Orphan Petition) to another post if you choose to adopt elsewhere. Transfer requests and other inquiries can be sent to us by e-mail at adoptionscambodia@state.gov.
Those interested in adopting Cambodian children should monitor the BCIS and State Department websites for information on future developments. Please click here to visit website on International Adoption.
