Celebrating 232 Years of American Independence

The U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh celebrated the 232nd anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with its largest reception of the year, held right on the Embassy grounds. More than 1,000 Cambodian government officials and civil society representatives attended the event. The embassy was honored to have H.E. Hor Namhong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, serve as the senior representative of the Royal Government of Cambodia. Embassy Consular Officer Jean Akers served as the Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening, speaking in both English and Khmer. (full text)
2008 Fourth of July TV Special

In honor of the 232nd anniversary of American independence, the U.S. Embassy is airing a 30-minute television special in celebration of the deepening U.S.-Cambodian bilateral relationship. Produced in cooperation with National Television of Cambodia (TVK), the special will be aired on Friday, July 4, 2008 by multiple television stations at varying times throughout the day. (full text)
Embassy Honors Its Outstanding Employees

Mission employees gathered in the embassy's central atrium to recognize the outstanding achievements of its top performers. During the ceremony, Ambassador Joseph A. Mussomeli presented certificates for 23 individual awards and three group awards. Additionally, six Mission employees were recognized for ten years of U.S. government service, and 26 drivers were recognized for their years of safe driving. (full text)
US Honors Outstanding Investigative Reporting in Cambodia

The Club of Cambodian Journalists (CCJ) announced the winners of its "Investigative Journalism Awards Competition" at a gala awards ceremony in Phnom Penh. The competition was organized with the support of the U.S. Embassy in order to encourage the Cambodian press to play a stronger watchdog role in the country's nascent democracy and to advocate for greater transparency. US-supported C-DOTS Program Combating Tuberculosis in Cambodia

The World Health Organization ranks Cambodia as one of 22 countries hardest hit by tuberculosis (TB). Since 2001, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has been working with the Royal Government of Cambodia’s National TB Control Program to strengthen diagnosis and treatment.
